Summer is officially upon us! The days are longer, the weather is warmer and we're all catching the summer travel bug. But with airlines tightening up their baggage rules, packing has become a science of planning, folding, rolling, squishing and weighing.

What won't weigh you down this summer is the perfect range of travel tech for every trip - from road, to see, to sky. We've rounded up a few of our favourite smartphone apps for your next big adventure.

Before you go...

HotelTonight

HotelTonight gathers information about last-minute deals at top-rate hotels, up to seven days in advance. This app provides a fresh, on-the-go approach to a largely non-mobile-friendly industry. The app boasts only needing 10 seconds to find you a great, last-minute hotel deal, sourcing hand-picked results and saving you the hassle of scrolling through endless lists of hotels.

Available on Android, iOS and Windows.

PackPoint

PackPoint is a smart packing app. Simply specify when and where you're travelling and the app does the rest. By combining information like weather forecasts, planned activities and trip type (ie: business or leisure), PackPoint will generate a must-have list of toiletries, clothing and other necessities. You can even check off your items as you pack them and share your progress with your travel buddies.

All these tools can be accessed from the app's navigation menu, providing you with instant information at your fingertips.

Roamer

With Roamer, users can avoid the hefty roaming fees associated with travelling, while using their local mobile number. Uber

If you haven't heard of Uber then... well, we'll question what rock you've been living under for the past few years. Not only is it a time and money saver at home, but it can definitely be a helpful app while travelling. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers in one accessible, easy-to-use platform, Uber provides approximate costs, driver information, fastest route and your ETA, with the added bonus of automatic payment. Not to mention it's available in 57 countries around the world.

Honorary Mention - Hailo

Looks like Uber has some upcoming competition with the introduction of Hailo. Boasting a safe and reliable experience, Hailo is following in Uber's successful footsteps. Although they're only up and running in 10 cities right now, they are one to be watched.

Lookout

It's always better to be safe, rather than sorry while travelling abroad. You're secure when it comes to your documentation and insurance, so the same should go for your smartphone.
